COURSE
Course/Aid Advisory (updated 11/3/2011, 0900): Forest Service Road 41 (Green Mountain Road), which comprises the second half of the course is closed to vehicle traffic due to washouts and repair gatings. It is passable on foot, so that portion of the course should remain viable for use. However, as we will not be able to get a vehicle up the road, we will have to hike/bike supplies in to set up aid. We plan to have sufficient fluids available for everyone to replenish for the trip down, some light snacks, light first aid, and maybe small drop bags. At this point in time, we plan to have aid at the normal location, after exiting the traps portion. I will keep this site updated daily, as well as the Ron Herzog 50K FB page, http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/135216153239055/, and the email list at ronherzog50k@yahoo.com .
"Tank trap” course: The “tanks” race course is a looped course which starts with a gradual 9 mile climb up a logging road, followed by 4 miles of Tank Trap exploration, 2.5 miles of new fire road to the aid station, 13 miles of gradual descent on forest service road, and ending with a 2.5 mile stretch on pavement to the finish.
I have removed Matt Hagen's Google Map link as the 2011 course will not contain the "extra credit" portion that Shawn and Tony had in last year's version. This should be closer to the original course.
Alternative road course: “The road” course (used exclusively in 2008, 2009) is an out and back on the last half of the normal course. Yes, this means asphalt and forest service road.
AID
Tanks course: One aid stop available upon exiting the traps portion It will have fluids, snacks, and drop bags (if light enough).
Road course: Aid station at the top, where you will turn around for the return.
There may be an additional aid station farther down the road at the gate where we will have a vehicle parked. We are still deciding as to whether we will need that or not. It will be a bonus stop if available.
Finish: Meat or veggie soups (will provide a veggie base, but veggie soup will largely be made from what folks bring to add), bread, water, soda, hot cocoa, small snacks/treats.
DROP BAGS?
We will have to make a call on drop bag availability later in the week leading up. If we are able to do them, they will have to be fairly minimal in size/weight.
